MT. KENYA ASCENT
SIRIMON TREK
Duration: 6 Days
Our Safaris to the Mt. Kenya cover several possibilities.
We cater to the needs of a range of visitors, from the
nature admirer who simply wants to have a leisurely day
or a day hike to explore the unique forest of the lower
slopes of the mountain- hoping to have that glimpse of
the summits; to the more ambitious technical climber who
wishes to have a go at the twin summits of Batian and
Nelion. If there is a special itinerary that you require
please let us know. The following items could be useful
for you: waterbottle, rain parka, light wool sweater,
and a day pack for camera and other gear.
Day 1:
Depart from Nairobi and stay overnight at the tranquil
and rustic Naro Moru River Lodge.
Day 2:
Morning spent sorting and organising personal equipment
for the mountain trek. Lunch at the lodge (this is an
extra charge for those not on full board the previous
night). In the afternoon we are driven to the Sirimon
gate and then to the roadhead at 11000ft. Overnight in
high altitude mountain tents.
Day 3:
Ascend the Sirimon Track to Liki North Rift Valley and
camp overnight in this beautiful little valley below the
subsidairy peaks of Tereri and Sendeyo, two ancient paretic
vents of the main peaks (13000 ft)
Day 4:
Climb out of the North Valley and into the MacKinder Valley,
one of the broadest valleys on the mountain, with many
giant groundsels. Camp at the head of the Mackinder Valley
(14000 ft) just below the main peaks of the Batian and
Nelion.
Day 5:
Alpine ascent of the third highest peak, Pt. Lenana (16355
ft) up the north face little used by tourists. Four hours
of stiff walking to the summit. Then descend to Teleki
Valley on the opposite side of the main peak, to Mackinders
Camp for a good night's rest (13900 ft).
Day 6:
Descend to the Metrological Station (roafhead) on the
Naro Moru Track and then to the lodge for lunch and return
to Nairobi.
This safari takes climbers along the Sirimon Track which
is one of the finest approaches to the peak area and offers
some of the best views of the main peaks. Climbers will
ascend Pt. Lenana (16355 ft) the third highest peak. Descent
will be on the Naro Moru Track. |
